Gringos on Tour, Uruguay
Kara says:
Gringos came to stay, yay! By some miracle of coordination we managed to get Jas from Brisbane and Nath & Ali from London to Uruguay at the appointed date. Then having worn out the partying options in Montevideo after two nights (not so hard to do) we headed for the coast.
See photo of Nath, with the first in a series of understated shirts, beside his boat in Punta del Este.
Next stop was a little fishing village on the northeast coast - Punta del Diablo. We quickly realised it was not the sort of place where you find a row of taxis waiting at the bus stop (see photo of slightly damp bus stop) so it was a good job Nath and Ali brought their 4-wheel drive cases for the walk to the house - see photo.
We had a house with a view of the coast, a balcony, a fireplace, a parilla and a collection of DVDs of questionable standard so were all set for a week of doing nothing.
Our busy days consisted of getting up (often pretty tough), walking to town, having lunch somewhere (as we seemed to be the only guests in the village I wonder if the locals were taking bets on where we'd eat next), hit the supermarket for provisions and firewood, walk home, open the beer, ahh....Photos of: Jas outside the internet shed, me with dog-friend II*, boys walking down the beach, boys cooking vast quantities of meat on the parilla over fire made with their bare hands. Don't know why no-one took Karl seriously when he hung his hammock.
Also photo of us outside our local (well, only) pub with dog-friend III where Jas and Nath almost had a famous victory for the pool table until it was pointed out they failed to follow the local (apparently stupid) rules and had to admit defeat.
We also went to a town on the Brasilian border, see photo of me on the border, Nath in Uruguay and Ali & Jas in Brasil. Although in reality Nath and Jas are both in i-phoneland.
Other photos of houses around the village.
*Dog friends. Punta del Diablo kindly provides dog-friends for everyone, they join you as you walk around town, often escorting you all the way home and seem to operate on a roster as we had several different dogs over the course of the week. The photo is dog-friend 2 who was the unanimous favourite.

Who admitted defeat? Urugayo rules are apparently as follows: When you have just been defeated, make up a rule that turns you into the winner. e.g. "You must sink the black in the same hole that you previously sunk in" or, why not "You must bounce the black ball off three walls in the pub before potting in one shot"
ReplyDeletehaha... iPhoneland. Where the officical currency is Wifi's.
Also, apologies for the radio silence currently folks... work is one continuously dark grey poo storm at the moment.

P.S. I hope Dogfriend II is alive. Dogfriend II wasn't built for the elements.
